1.) Define what beat and rhythm are respectively. The beat is steady, non changing and dictates the rhythms speed; how fast or slow. Rhythm is the composition of the sounds and relies upon the beat for the speed. Rhythm also contains moments of rest this allows the rhythm to have "definition" rather than being one tone.
2.) Rhythm and beat do relate to one another, rhythm is controlled/ dictated by the "steady" beat. A rhythm without a beat would have no distinct speed.

Introduction
Hello, my name is Taylor Adkins. I am an Elementary Education major as well as a wife and mother. I have a rotten 14 month old little boy and a silver Labrador retriever named Ruger. I began my college career straight out of high school however I did not start out pursuing a degree in education; I actually started in nursing. After 2 years I had a hard realization that I was not meant to be a nurse, I then switched to education and I have loved every minute of it. I had always wanted to be a teacher but I allowed family to influence my decision ultimately leading me to take 2 years of nursing school. I am now a senior and will be student teaching in the Spring. I hope to gain an understanding on how to use music in my classroom also incorporating non typical methods and fun into the lessons.I have very little musical background and because of this I am slightly nervous for this class. Here is to a great semester :)
